Vault by Vans x Proper "Tatanka" Collection

Long Beach City's Proper has been staple of the streetwear and sneaker scene since before there was a sneaker scene. Vans first teamed up with Proper over a decade ago with their satin Sk8 Hi LX. A few more releases followed over the next few years with the nautical and LAA Angels packs, but we haven't heard much from them since then. Until now, at least. Vault and Proper have teamed up on a new footwear collection with of super premium Horween Buffalo uppers.

The collection consists of three pieces, one colorway each, of the Slip On LX, Old Skool, LX, and Sk8 Hi LX. The Slip On LX will feature a black, tumbled leather Horween upper with a light brown pigskin lining which sits atop a stripeless, high-gloss, bone-white foxing.

For the Old Skool and Sk8 Hi LX offerings, we get golden brown and light blue uppers respectively. Each in the same, supple tumbled Horween Buffalo leather as the Slip On. In place of the jazz stripe, we are given the perforated silhouette where stitching would normally be. The embossed, co-branded, and stitched on tongue labels really set these pairs apart from the Slip On. Both also feature raw tongue edges, owing to the rugged nature of the collaborations vision. The same pigskin lining and glossy foxing appear on both pairs.

Additionally, all three will feature classic siped soles, shying away from the waffle outsole, for a bit of a more premium look and feel. Each will come packaged in custom 10oz canvas dust bags and custom packaging. A bit of history if you're wondering: Tatanka means "buffalo" in the native Lakota Sioux language. Tatanka Iyotake, the medicine man and chief of the Hunkpapa Sioux is better known by his translated name, Sitting Bull.

For those not in-the-know, Horween Buffalo leather is one of the highest quality leathers available on the market today. Extremely American in its stylings, it is known for its ruggedness, each cut is unique and is prized for how it ages. That means that no two pairs  of the Tatanka collection will be alike. Horween is made by hand in America, the same way it has been done since 1905.

The Vault by Vans x Proper "Tatanka" Collection will be available this Saturday, August 12th, exclusively at Proper and online at Prices will be $120, $140, and $160 respectively.
