Engineered Garments tends to be one of the higher end brands that Vans collaborates with. In the past, this partnership has produced some rather clandestine drops (the first one came out of nowhere), but the mismatched materials have proved their staying power. The people like what the people like, and while brands generally struggle with what exactly that is, Engineered Garments has managed to figure it out. This weekend, Vault and Engineered Garments team up again for another Slip On LX, this time in the proven fan favorite: the classic checkered pattern.
Engineered Garments is no stranger to the Slip On LX. This drop is made up of four different colorways of the model with embossed leather and suede checkerboard uppers. The black/white, white, and red opt for all-white foxing, including heeltabs, while the black pair is completely tonal. The materials retain the oily sheen that we have come to love from the Japanese team. The red really pops. Out of the four, this is probably my favorite.
The Vault by Vans x Engineered Garments Embossed Leather Checkered Slip On LX will be available tomorrow, Saturday, 02 March exclusively from Nepenthes Japan for ¥14,000. Nepenthes NYC will also have some stock for purchase next week, Friday, 08 March. US retail: $90.
Following this limited release, shops who carry both Engineered Garments and Vault (like Ann Arbor’s Today Clothing) will have black/white, red, and black available on 15 March. Keep in mind that the tonal white pair is a Nepenthes exclusive.
