It's been some kind of year so far. We have seen collaborations like no other time in our lives and we still have a few months to get through in 2016. And wouldn't you know, Vans still isn't going to let up. Vans Skate has teamed up with Britain's Slam City skate shop on a collaboration that busts open the archives. Here is what Slam City has to say about their latest project with Vans:
via Slam City:
Both shoes are plucked from the Vans archives for their relevance to key moments in our history. One of the lesser seen silhouettes is the Native which came out in 1988, this was the year our original Covent Garden shop opened. We have been fans of this iconic shoe for many years. The famous Madrid collaboration with the flies is etched in to our memories. We are stoked on our monochromatic Slam incarnation of this classic Vans model. The unique shape of our Native Pro is accentuated by contrasting white stitching and is subtly adorned with Savage Pencil's Flamehead logo. Edwin Pouncey's artwork is heavily intertwined with our early days and used fondly on both shoes. Next we chose to make a Lampin Pro...
This shoe was released in 1993, for many of us this period of time is golden for many different reasons and the soundtrack and visuals of this era bound to our souls. The Lampin was well loved but it's inclusion in the Vans line short lived. It looks amazing in this Marshmallow / White colourway and again the Flamehead appears on the heel. Both shoes have been updated with current Vans technology, making them better than they ever were. For the first time these shoes feature Duracap underlays to extend their life-span and have Ultracush in the footbeds for increased support and cushioning. Finishing touches which celebrate our history are the inclusion of Tod Swank's text which appeared on a Slam ad in 1989. Tod has been a good friend to Slam over the years and recently designed a board for us. His text about the store appears on the insoles and on the box of both models.
The Vans x Slam City Native Pro and Lampin Pro will go on sale at Slam City locations and online tomorrow, October 22nd at 9 AM London time. There will be an extremely limited stateside release at FTC and in Berlin at Civilist next month. More details to follow. Peep the release video below.
