Back in 2005, Dallas Clayton was struggling to find a publisher for An Awesome Book!, a children's story he wrote after the birth of his first son. He took a rather unorthodox approach and not only self-published the book, but also offered it for free on his website distributed it through mostly non-traditional routes. Flash forward 12 years later and Dallas has six more books behind him, world tours, extensive work with Spike Jonze, and now a footwear collaboration with Vans.
The footwear will arrive in a few different models for adults and kids. For the adult offerings, we see an Old Skool with Dallas's ubiquitous doodled words and bright colors as well as two Authentics, one featuring an all-over skating unicorn print and the other an ultra-cheerful rainbow hue. While the Old Skool sizing will run from 3.5-13, the Authentics will be available in only unisex sizing up to a men's 10.
The kids get the biggest selection from this collection, with offerings on the Old Skool, Slip On, Authentic, and Sk8 Hi Zip, some with velcro and elastic options for smaller humans. Most of the kids models come with the same illustrations as featured on the adults, however the Sk8 Hi Zip and Slip On feature unicorn and multiple character collages not seen in the adult offerings. All pairs feature a really rad Dallas Clayton rainbow woven tongue label and custom colored, dual-branded footbeds.
The Vans x Dallas Clayton collection is available now from Vans.com and other Vans retailers. Check your local for availability. They retail from $37-70. Meanwhile, check out the video Vans did with Dallas back in 2013 with filmmaker Han Su Kim.
