A little over a year ago, BEAMS and Sasquatchfabrix brought us a unique elastic Sk8 Hi to celebrate the 40th anniversary of BEAMS. With the success of that "Oriental Skate" behind them Sasquatchfabrix has linked with BEAMS and Vans Japan on another iteration of the elastic series with the Old Skool JP "Ivy Sk8."
The first-of-its-kind Old Skool features woven elastic banding across the tongue that affords the wearer the ability to comfortably wear them laceless. The "Ivy Sk8" name stems from the colorway chosen for this collaboration. The white canvas and off-white suede were chosen to mimic the style of deck shoes oft worn by Ivy League students. The brands have not forgotten the skate roots of the Old Skool, though, and have stuffed the tongue with three times the amount of padding we would typically see in the model. The hits of red on the fixing stripe, tongue label, and triple-branded insoles really set this pair off.
Alongside the Old Skool, are a series of hyper-hued short and long sleeved tees. The tee graphics are simple but well-designed with kanji and branded prints. It's an interesting choice to go super bright with the apparel while keeping the footwear subdued, but it works.
The Vans Japan x Sasquatchfabrix x BEAMS Old Skool JP "Ivy Sk8" will be available exclusively from BEAMS Japan stores on Saturday, May 13th. The apparel will run you ¥ 5,800 and ¥ 7,000 while the footwear option will be ¥ 12,000.
