Vans continues it's 50th Anniversary collection by collaborating with MTV on a 1990's inspired Era Pro.
The discontinued line from Vans' past breathes new life with the OG Runner.
Vans brought us the Serio running silhouette in the 1980's and it fizzled out in the early 90's as the brand began shifting production elsewhere. It has been a staple for Vans JP for a few years now, as they seem to always get the models back before we do in the States. Vans is bringing back the runner style, but this time they have renowned designer Taka Hayashi a shot at the silhouette. What came out of the lab is the TH Buffalo Trail LX, a brand new model from Vans Vault and Taka.
Designer Taka Hayashi pays homage to Vans’ design history by reimagining the retro runner, the Serio, under premium label, Vault by Vans. Inspired by the original silhouette introduced in the early ‘80s, Taka Hayashi’s unique vision blends the vintage Vans runner with a buffalo boot form to create the TH Buffalo Boot LX.
The latest Vault by Vans model has the constructed outsole of a work boot translated through a stacked leather wedge, EVA Midsole and a Vibram® ripple sole bottom plate. The result provides a premium, athletic-inspired style that’s reminiscent of Vans’ decades long design history. Available in black, brown and taupe, the TH Buffalo Trail LX features upgraded materials like leather, nubuck and suede both outside and inside the shoe.
The Taka Hayashi x Vans Vault TH Buffalo Trail LX will arrive this month at Vans Vault stockists across the globe. We expect to see more from this model very soon and possibly even shop collaborations. Stay tuned!
Back in 2014, Vans partnered with San Diego based bicycle company Leader Bikes to produce a limited run of footwear that was available in Japan markets only. Only a few pairs were able to make it out of the island nation and into the hands of collectors. Looks like our wait is over. The bike company has teamed up with Vans to create another collection for Summer 2016. Three new shoes, hats, shirts, and a backpack are all coming to the US this month.
The silhouettes chosen for the pack are the Old Skool, Era, and Slip On. The Old Skool is designed with an all black canvas upper and 3M jazz stripe on a black midsole. Both the Slip On and Era will sport Leader branding embroidered onto their heel counters.
The Slip On will arrive with an all 3M upper and black mid while the Era feature a 3M heel counter and checkerboard white/black midsole. Little details like the sprocket eyelet on the top hold of the Era and Old Skool really tie this collab together. Two dual branded tees, a snapback, and a 3M backpack will also be available.
The Leader Bikes x Vans "Night Shift" Collection will be available at ABC Mart and Brotures in Japan on Friday, May 13. For those in the US, you will have to travel to Brotures San Diego for the May 21st release to get your hands on a pair. Retail for the Old Skool will be $99.99USD while the Era and Slip On will be $81,99 each. This release is in store only on a first come, first served basis.
It seems like the trend is now Vans Classics teaming up with one major brand per year and releasing a huge collaboration collection. First we had Star Wars, which were a huge hit, and then Disney came and we saw sales like we never have before. And now, there's a new challenger approaching...
Keeping with the classic style of the previous collaborations, the Nintendo partnership will be comprised of several styles of Sk8 Hi's, Old Skools, Authentics. and Slip Ons. All of the iconic characters from Nintendo's heavy hitters will make an appearance in one way or another in the collection. Even the dog from Duck Hunt gets his mug on an Authentic. The collection will be packaged in special Nintendo boxes. There is really something for everyone here and fans of both brands should be happy with the offerings.
The Nintendo x Vans collection will be available June 3rd at Vans retailers around the world as well as online. Additional information on apparel and wave 2 will be available as we get it.
After some teasing last month and lots of rumors, Southern California's BLENDS has released the official images and information on the 4th installment of the bones striped Sk8 Hi Zip LX. This time, the design team at BLENDS chose a tonal peacoat blue upper and black bone jazz stripe to sit on top of black striped white foxing. This color blue is very dark and you can only really see the blue hues on the raw edges of the leather and in natural light.
The leather chosen is the same type of motorcycle jacket leather used on the black/white Sk8 Hi and Old Skool Zip LX from previous releases. A black outsole, black heel tab, formal flat black waxed laces and dual branded leather sock liners finish off the pair.
The BLENDS x Vans Vault Sk8 Hi Zip LX "Peacoat" will be available in very limited numbers on Saturday, May 7th at BLENDS locations as well as online.
New for the summer 2016 season, Vans has teamed up with California women's brand Summer Bummer for a collection of shoes, apparel, and accessories for all of Waffle Girls out there. There are some really great styles with unique branding accents and comfy pieces for the season.
Vans Vans and designer Alexandra Cassaniti have joined forces to channel the endless summer with the Vans X Summer Bummer collaboration. Showcasing Summer Bummers bold black-and-white aesthetic, the Summer Bummer Dazie Hi features a deconstructed high-top canvas silhouette with glow-in-the-dark details, water-based inks and glues, removable and washable comfy UltraCush Eco footbeds, and classic rubber waffle outsoles with single-wrapped foxing tape for lightweight comfort.

Japanese clothier BEAMS continues its 40th birthday celebration by partnering with the archipelago's cut and sew masters Sasquatchfabrix and Vans Japan on a new style of the Sk8 Hi JP. Going with a navy colored upper and contrasting stitching, Sasquatchfabrix decided to add their elastic banding to the tongue of the Sk8 Hi, a first for the model. Triple branded sock liners and a white mid finish this pair off.
We are a little late on bringing you this news, as the Sasquatchfabrix x Beams x Vans Japan Sk8 Hi "Oriental Skate" collection released on April 1, however keep an eye on BEAMS for a potential restock.
There are a few models that rarely get brought out of the archives for updated designs and the Style 72 Lacey is certainly one of them. For spring 2016, ABC Mart is stocking a few new designs but one stands out among the rest. For this pair, Van JP has decided to use a Native American style mock up by adding bead work to the leather lace. The denim upper creates a nice contrast against the brown leather and red beading. This is another one of those times we really wish we could just walk down the street to ABC and pick up a couple pairs.
The Vans Japan Style 72 Lacey "Native American" is available now from ABC Mart. There is no US release planned.
Chicago boutique and clothier Saint Alfred has teamed up with Vans Vault to create their second collaboration with the waffle sole. This time around, STA chose the Old Skool LX as their canvas. Like the Chukka Boot from 2012, the Old Skool LX's will feature a resin treated canvas upper that help the wearer defend against the harshest of conditions in the Windy City. One of our favorite features is the STA773 that is printed in morse code on both midsoles. We really wish this midsole printing would catch on more; we can't get enough. Both shoes will also feature a dual branded leather footbed and will come packaged with a dustbag in a special drawer box that is hand numbered and sealed.
The Saint Alfred x Vans Vault Old Skool LX will be available this Saturday, April 9th in store only at Saint Alfred on a first-come, first-served basis. Any remaining pairs will be available the following day online.
Fear of God founder Jerry Lorenzo recently invited The Coveteur into his home for a sit down discussion about his inspiration and brand style. Among the many photos that were taken at his Glendale residence, was this image of his upcoming collaboration with Vans. Jerry had this to say about the partnership:
The Vans collaboration came through our relationship with PacSun. That was kind of just like another Justin Bieber moment for me, where it felt right in my spirit. I needed to create a brand that was more accessible. As more people follow you, there is a responsibility there. There’s now 13, 14, 16-year-old kids that follow me and that like what I’m doing. I do feel a responsibility to reach them where they are, at their level of accessibility. And in order for that to be really considered cool, I felt like I needed a true Californian association that helped to communicate that, and that was Vans. They were the perfect partner to come in and sit next to this FOG capsule at PacSun.”
No official launch date on the collaboration is available yet, but we will be sure and bring you the information as we get it. In the meantime, head on over to The Coveteur to check out the entire article.
In addition to the Pro Classics Collection, Vans had their designers work on a special set of Vault OG Sk8 Hi LX, OG Slip On LX, and backpacks for the 50th Anniversary which they have dubbed the "Checkered Past" collection.
The footwear is composed of a premium leather upper that is woven in alternating leather and suede to recreate the classic checkered design that has become ubiquitous with the brand. There are three classic colorways available: black/white, white/off-white, and blue/white and one very vivid colorway that makes use of the full spectrum of the rainbow. Each OG Sk8 Hi LX will have a matching pair of OG Slip On LX.
In addition to the footwear, Vault has created a matching set of backpacks with the same woven design that can be found on the OG Sk8 Hi and OG Slip On LX. You get your choice of black/white or the vivid orange/blue woven designs.
The Vans 50th Anniversary Vault OG Sk8 Hi and OG Slip On LX and Backpack "Checkered Past" will be available tomorrow, March 16th, from Vault stockists like Vans DQM The General. Check your local shop for availability.
Some time ago, we brought you the initial images of one of the things Vans had planned for their big 50th anniversary. Back then, we didn't have any release information to report. We are extremely happy to say that the time has come.
The first wave of the 50th Anniversary Pro Classics will consist of the red/white Duke Kahanamoku Authentic Pro '66, the navy blue Authentic Pro '74, the red/blue Era Pro '76 (the first ever "Off the Wall" shoe), Tony Alva's blue Mid Skool Pro '79, and Spicoli's classic checkerboard Slip On Pro '82. The special 50th anniversary black/gold Sk8 Hi Pro and Authentic Pro is thrown in for good measure. All of the 50th Anniversary Pro Classics come with updated materials and the new UltraCush HD Pro insoles with special 50th Anniversary branding.
The initial offering from the Vans 50th Anniversary Pro Classics Collection will be available tomorrow March 16th, from retailers like The Vans DQM General in NYC. This is a global release and while they will be widely available from Vans retail stores and dealers, not all stores will have them in stock. Check your local retailer for availability.
Engineered Garments and Vans Vault join forces for the third time in what has become an annual tradition. We have seen the OG Authentics and OG Slip On LX before, but this time they are introducing a new model to their line up: the OG Sk8 Hi LX.
This collab is well-known for its use of tonal suede and smooth leather that gives each pair a striking look. The OG Slip On LX will be available in navy, black, true white, and moon rock while the OG Sk8 Hi LX will only come in black, true white, and moon rock.
The Engineered Garments x Vans Vault OG Slip On and OG Sk8 Hi LX will be available exclusively at Nepenthes in New York City on Friday, March, 18th. Beginning on the 21st, they will be accepting phone and email orders on remaining stock. These will not be available for international purchase.
Well, better late than never. A couple years back Pilgrim Surf + Supply teamed up with Vans JP to produce a Slip On with a unique twist on the classic checkerboard pattern. Since the Pilgrim logo is a pennant, they paired that with the checkerboard pattern and made a really eye catching model. The shoe was only available in Japan and sold out pretty quickly. Pilgrim has finally brought it stateside and this time the pair gets the Vault treatment and also has an Authentic LX to add to the family. The new Authentic OG LX has everything we love about the OG silhouette: high, stripeless foxing and quad stitched heels. Both pairs feature co-branded sockliners and see-thru waffle sole with Pilgrim Surf and Supply pennant logos in black/white showing through.
The Pilgrim Surf + Supply x Vans Vault Slip On and Authentic OG LX are available now from Pilgrim Surf + Supply Brooklyn. They will have a staggered released and be available at Pilgrim Amagansett starting March 5th and online starting March 7th. Select styles available at Pilgrim Tokyo beginning later this spring.
