Vans Vault gets psychedelic on three new designs with Robert Williams.
After nearly a year of speculation and leaks of various samples, Vans has released final information and photos for the Fall 2015 WTAPS collection. We were initially going to publish this tomorrow morning, but then we realized that some shops might be releasing at midnight. The full collection will consist of 8 pairs. Three Era OG LX's, two Sk8 Hi OG LX's, and three Style 36 OG LX's. Let's break them down a bit.
The Eras have an all white canvas upper with solid colored mid and outsole. The theme with these models is a nod to Japanese primary school uniforms in which the color of a shoe's soles directly corresponded to the grade of the wearer. You get your choice of red, blue, or green outsoles to pick from. The WTAPS flag tag and dual branded insoles are also nice touches.
We have gone over the Style 36's in some detail previously, and there is not much else to report on these. We have three colorways to choose from: navy, black, and wine. All are done up in premium suede with full grain tumbled leather jazz stripes. All have tonal midsole and outsoles. Military style WTAPS woven labels adorn the tongues.
The two colorways of Sk8 Hi OG's have also been reported on at some length. From the looks of it, the black pair seems to have some hints of navy in the dye, as can be seen in closeups. The croc print really sets these apart and stand out mostly on the gray colorway. All black midsoles finish these off.
The WTAPS x Vans Vault Collection will release tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8th at Vault accounts worldwide. Being that this is a Vault release, not all accounts will release on the same day and you would do well to check our Vault Locator tab and ask your local which day they will put their stock on the floor. Also, even though there are 8 pairs in this collection, these are WTAPS so we don't expect them to sit for very long. If you are on the fence, it may behoove you to just purchase them for retail rather than pay resale prices later.

Vans has a history of producing low volume, high quality pairs to drum up desire and hype with collectors and then, somewhere down the line, releasing a lower quality, high volume model of a similar design. The Vans California Sk8 Hi Cup CA is an example of this. From a distance, it's hard to distinguish these from the ultra lux Diemme models of years past.
The pack arrives with monotone full grain, premium leather uppers that are broken up only by the white jazz stripe. The three colorways available, black, white, and blue, sit atop a modern cup sole, which is where this new model takes its name from. This is quite the departure from the vulcanized process Vans has used historically on their waffle soles.
The Vans California Sk8 Hi Cup CA is available now from DQM The General. Look for these to arrive at other California Collection stockists this month.
Concepts joins Vans in launching the Van Sk8-Hi Syndicate. Set atop a classic white vulcanized rubber midsole, the design features premium materials and attention to detail. Highlighted by croc-embossed leather sidepaneling, the Sk8-Hi makes use of a premium leather lining in addition to pebbled leather eyestays. Special Concepts x Syndicate branding can be found both on the padded insoles and on the woven tongue label. 100% cotton laces allow for the additional or removal of a zippered shroud, adding a unique twist on the Sk8-Hi silhouette.
Packaged in a custom black on black Concepts box, the shoes will be available in-store at Concepts Cambridge only on Saturday March 28th, followed by a limited online release at 12pm eastern only at Cncpts.com. Follow @cncpts on Twitter for the product link on date of launch.
