Vans and DQM collaborate again for a summer staple taking the form of a Mesh Old Skool LX in four flavors: black, white, navy, and burgundy.
DQM finds inspirations a couple decades back for their newest collaboration with Vault.
In addition to the Pro Classics Collection, Vans had their designers work on a special set of Vault OG Sk8 Hi LX, OG Slip On LX, and backpacks for the 50th Anniversary which they have dubbed the "Checkered Past" collection.
The footwear is composed of a premium leather upper that is woven in alternating leather and suede to recreate the classic checkered design that has become ubiquitous with the brand. There are three classic colorways available: black/white, white/off-white, and blue/white and one very vivid colorway that makes use of the full spectrum of the rainbow. Each OG Sk8 Hi LX will have a matching pair of OG Slip On LX.
In addition to the footwear, Vault has created a matching set of backpacks with the same woven design that can be found on the OG Sk8 Hi and OG Slip On LX. You get your choice of black/white or the vivid orange/blue woven designs.
The Vans 50th Anniversary Vault OG Sk8 Hi and OG Slip On LX and Backpack "Checkered Past" will be available tomorrow, March 16th, from Vault stockists like Vans DQM The General. Check your local shop for availability.
Some time ago, we brought you the initial images of one of the things Vans had planned for their big 50th anniversary. Back then, we didn't have any release information to report. We are extremely happy to say that the time has come.
The first wave of the 50th Anniversary Pro Classics will consist of the red/white Duke Kahanamoku Authentic Pro '66, the navy blue Authentic Pro '74, the red/blue Era Pro '76 (the first ever "Off the Wall" shoe), Tony Alva's blue Mid Skool Pro '79, and Spicoli's classic checkerboard Slip On Pro '82. The special 50th anniversary black/gold Sk8 Hi Pro and Authentic Pro is thrown in for good measure. All of the 50th Anniversary Pro Classics come with updated materials and the new UltraCush HD Pro insoles with special 50th Anniversary branding.
The initial offering from the Vans 50th Anniversary Pro Classics Collection will be available tomorrow March 16th, from retailers like The Vans DQM General in NYC. This is a global release and while they will be widely available from Vans retail stores and dealers, not all stores will have them in stock. Check your local retailer for availability.
New for spring, DQM partners with Vans Vault for a new collection of tonal black and white Sk8 Hi and Style 36 LX.
DQM will be releasing its Spring 16 footwear collection in collaboration with Vans this Friday, February 26th. The collection inlcudes an OG SK8-Hi LX and an OG Style 36 LX, both produced in all black and all white premium leather color ways. Made exclusively for DQM, the shoes are inspired by a study in minimalism, and in contrasts and transitions: two parts of one, light and dark, black and white, and the gray areas.
The shoes combine a feeling of minimalism, with refined, pared-back styling and a completely monotone palette, with a feeling of luxury, fabricated in soft, super premium full-grain leather and featuring quilted leather tongues and gold foil printing on cork insoles. They have a deconstructed look with minimal branding, simple punched eyelets and high-density printed side-stripes. The shoes feature ‘The General: DQM for Vans’ branding on the insoles and ‘DQM’ logos at the heel tabs.
Produced in a limited edition, “The Halves” collection will be available in men’s and women’s sizes exclusively at The Vans DQM General in SoHo, New York on Friday, February 26th.
Vans has a history of producing low volume, high quality pairs to drum up desire and hype with collectors and then, somewhere down the line, releasing a lower quality, high volume model of a similar design. The Vans California Sk8 Hi Cup CA is an example of this. From a distance, it's hard to distinguish these from the ultra lux Diemme models of years past.
The pack arrives with monotone full grain, premium leather uppers that are broken up only by the white jazz stripe. The three colorways available, black, white, and blue, sit atop a modern cup sole, which is where this new model takes its name from. This is quite the departure from the vulcanized process Vans has used historically on their waffle soles.
The Vans California Sk8 Hi Cup CA is available now from DQM The General. Look for these to arrive at other California Collection stockists this month.
New for summer 2015, Vans Classics has released three new colorways of the vintage Slip Ons in premium suede. Arriving in gray, navy, and white, they are very similar to the Wolverine Suede offered by BILLY'S and Vans Japan. Padded, leather lined ankle collars, stripeless white foxing, and classic Waffle Sole finish the three off.
The Vans Classics Suede Vintage Slip On is available now from DQM The General as well as other Vans retailers globally.
A couple of months ago, we brought you leaks of the Blue Note Records x DQM x Vans Sk8 Hi and Era. Today, DQM brings us full release details and photos of the collection.
DQM has collaborated with Vans to produce a very special project with the iconic Blue Note Records. Releasing this Spring and Summer, the project includes two separate, consecutive footwear releases accompanied by a film featuring Don Was, the renowned musician/ producer President of Blue Note Records, and the legendary skateboarder and jazz-inspired contemporary musician Ray Barbee.
Founded in New York in 1939 by Alfred Lion and Max Margulis, Blue Note Records has just celebrated 75 years recording the world's greatest jazz. Many Blue Note albums, especially from the 1950s and early 1960s, are considered to the be the finest jazz recordings of all time, such that the record label name itself is now synonymous with the seminal American music form.
The Blue Note Records project produced by DQM and Vans is inspired by the rhythm and extemporization that exists similarly within music, especially jazz, and skateboarding. Equally characterized by free-form thinking, style and improvisation, the art forms of music and skateboarding share a special connection. Both start with a simple stroke of the guitar, a push on a skateboard, and from there, its flow. The project includes consecutive Vans footwear releases produced exclusively for DQM; an OG Era LX and an OG Sk8-Hi LX style in two colorways, 'The Colors,' releasing in store on May 8th, and online on May 11th, and 'The Blues,' releasing later in June. The shoes are constructed in 6oz canvas yardage printed with a collage featuring cover art from Blue Note's epic catalog; each pair is unique.
Produced in a limited edition, the Blue Note Records footwear collection will be available in mens and women's sizes exclusively in store at The Vans DQM General in SoHo, New York and online.
DQM will be releasing its Spring 15 footwear collection in collaboration with Vans next Thursday, March 19th. Made exclusively for DQM, the shoes are inspired by the brownstone row houses of New York and the North East. The history of brownstones, specifically in New York and in the shape of neighborhoods such Harlem and Park Slope in Brooklyn, has a long and celebrated past. Images of tall front stoops, curved entranceways and terraced homes in hues of red, gray and brown, conjures up a lifestyle of days gone by. Featured in hundreds of films by directors from Woody Allen to Spike Lee, brownstone buildings have become an icon, an architectural identifier, of the city.
Drawing from all the natural shades of the Jurassic sandstone material, the collection includes four styles: a Sk8-Hi 46 LX and Old Skool LX in colorways of grays and red brick/ brown. Constructed in a combination of premium leather, suede, nubuck and canvas, the shoes feature riveted brass eyelets with single tortoise glass eyelet detail, waxed flat laces, gum outsole and The General signature navy blue heel tab print. A custom, artist-commissioned illustration is printed on the insoles. Built for the East Coast Spring weather, the shoes feature water-resistant Scotchgard™ weather protection treatment.
Produced in a limited edition, the Brownstones collection will be available in men's and women's sizes at The Vans DQM General in SoHo, New York and online at dqmnewyork.com on March 19th.
