After some teasing last month and lots of rumors, Southern California's BLENDS has released the official images and information on the 4th installment of the bones striped Sk8 Hi Zip LX. This time, the design team at BLENDS chose a tonal peacoat blue upper and black bone jazz stripe to sit on top of black striped white foxing. This color blue is very dark and you can only really see the blue hues on the raw edges of the leather and in natural light.
The leather chosen is the same type of motorcycle jacket leather used on the black/white Sk8 Hi and Old Skool Zip LX from previous releases. A black outsole, black heel tab, formal flat black waxed laces and dual branded leather sock liners finish off the pair.
The BLENDS x Vans Vault Sk8 Hi Zip LX "Peacoat" will be available in very limited numbers on Saturday, May 7th at BLENDS locations as well as online.
BLENDS sent out a sneaky email this afternoon. It was simply entitled 2016 Spring/Summer Feature. Contained in the lookbook was a myriad of style from Gosha and other designers. Two images contained on foot shots of a new BLENDS collaboration with Vans Vault.
Blue/black? Black/black? Your guess is as good as ours. Expect more info soon.
Two years ago, Vault collaborated with Southern California's BLENDS to create what is arguably one of the most sought after pairs of Vans in history, the black and white Sk8 Hi Zip LX with bone jazz stripe. Limited to only 100 pairs, there are still plenty of Waffleheads who can't track down their sizes (and some with a couple pairs on ice). BLENDS wanted to highlight how well the shoes age, so today they posted some photos of co-owner Mike's pair. These were constructed of premium motorcycle jacket leather uppers and you can tell that they hold up to the damage of daily wear. While synthetics and lesser quality materials wouldn't last, the BLENDS have only gotten better with the grime and punishment Mike has put them through. This pair is definitely getting better with time.
Custom work is one of the best parts of sneaker culture. Some of the things that people can come up with are certainly awe inspiring and every now and then, an artist produces a shoe that leaves the community wishing it was a production model.
Riley DeBence was so inspired by the popular BLENDS Bones collection that he decided to try his hand at his very first custom. Starting with the CA Sk8 Hi Zip in Henna, he painted the upper in a deep autumn red, and hand stitched a custom cut bones jazz stripe in white onto the sides. The one-off he created looks great and left us wishing we had a pair.
This is Riley's first custom, but it won't be his last. He has plans to produce a custom that we be for sale this fall.
A could of weeks ago, we brought you the some Old Skools that Mr. SBTG took his brush to. Today, we get first looks at a reappropriated pair of Blends "Bones" Sk8 Hi LX Zip in Chili colorway.
The custom work includes a Lufthansa flight attendant posing before a tropical war scene a la Apocalypse Now, with the familiar "Napalm" from his "Enjoy Napalm" pieces of past. The bone really pairs well with the overall theme and completes the scene in a way that the usual Jazz Stripe wouldn't be able to.
If you are like us , you're drooling over this pair,. Sadly, you won't be able to get your hands on this exact piece as it was a commissioned by a customer. However, head on over to sbtgsurplus.bigcartel.com to speak with Mr. SBTG and get the details for your own pair worked out.
Following the 2013 release of our Black SK8 Hi, and our Old Skool earlier this year we at Blends have teamed up once again with Vans Vault for a special edition Vans Vault SK8 Hi in a new Vans color - Chili Pepper. This is once again a premium take on the Iconic OG Sk8 Hi with a new never before used extra supple buttery leather. The shoe will once again feature a zippered closure at the heel and a bone-patterned Jazz Stripe branding across the upper. Extremely limited the BLENDS x Vans Vault Sk8-Hi Zip LX will be available this Saturday, December 6th online at Blendsus.com and in-store at our BLENDS Los Angeles, Costa Mesa, San Diego and Santa Ana locations.
