It seems like sneaker customizers are a dime a dozen these days. There are precious few, however, who have such attention to detail and are able to channel their skill to create real works of art. SBTG is definitely a member of this elite group. For the upcoming House of Vans Singapore event on September 24th, SBTG put his skill to the test on a totally reworked Sk8 Hi.
The late 80s and early 90's were formative years for SBTG. Skaters were getting more technical and street skating as already well-cemented into the lexicon. Aside from learning tricks and discovering the music that would eventually come to define his style, he also delved into his first customization when he chopped down a Sk8 Hi to make a mid. Much like skaters of the 80's with the Full Cab, however, instead of wrapping the collars with tape, SBTG took needle and thread to the raw edges.
For the "Big Pants, Small Wheels" Sk8 Hi Custom, SBTG called on this era in his life for inspiration. He chopped down a Sk8 Hi to more of a Sk8 Mid height and meticulously sealed the collar with a contrasting red thread. Just under the crimson stitching, he employed a tonal V weave into the collar. SBTG employed his signature animal camo prints onto the jazz stripes and ubiquitous handstyle on the ollie pads and midsole. Finally, midsole prints! Each heel counter has a hand painted ribcage and metal concho with leather tassels and glass beads. SBTG Surplus woven tongue labels and a custom checkerboard insole make this pair the total package.
The "Big Pants, Small Wheels" Sk8 Hi Custom by SBTG for House of Vans Singapore will be on display at House of Vans Singapore. If you are in the area on September 24th, be sure and stop by and meet him and the crew at their event as well as check out everything else they have to offer.
