For those of us who aren’t lucky enough to live in the Land of the Rising Sun, it’s time to get in touch with your favorite proxy because Vans Japan and NEIGHBORHOOD are about to drop a new collection. Of course it’s killer. And of course it’s an Asia exclusive.
The collection has everything – apparel, accessories and some gnarly Sk8 Hi’s and Authentics. The pieces draw heavily on (and stay true to) Van’s early BMX history, making use of an iconic thumbs-up graphic that appears across almost everything.
The Sk8 Hi is available in two colorways, red or black. Suede covers the vamp and heel counters and alternating red and black thumbs-up graphics make the quarter panels pop. Retail on these is set at ¥16,200 ($145).
The Authentics come in the same red or black colorways, with a checkerboard pattern covering the vamps and a matching graphic on the sole foxing. Shoes like these are the reason we get excited every time a new shoe comes out of Japan. The Authentics will run you ¥14,040 ($126).
Shirts, long and short sleeve tees, shorts, hats and keychains round out the collection and each makes great use of the thumbs-up graphic we saw on the shoes. They’ll retail for ¥20,520 ($184), ¥9,720 ($87), ¥8,640 ($77), ¥22,680 ($204), ¥8,640 ($77), and ¥4,104 ($37) respectively.
As someone living in the US, these releases are always painful because getting your hands on a pair means pulling favors or dropping serious dough. So for now, we’re left drooling.
