We have seen the use of tech materials on Vans before. Last year, The Darkside Initiative introduced the SuperFabric to the waffle sole. Now, Japanese stockist BILLY'S has partnered with Vans JP on a new use for an old fabric. For years, we have seen kevlar fabric for use in military and law enforcement to stop bullets and save lives, and now we can see how well it holds up to the rigors of skating and biking.
The Slip On JP makes use of the Kevlar on the entire vamp of the shoe while the Mtn Edition uses it sparingly to reinforce the ankle collar, vamp, and sidewall. Elsewhere on both shoes, heavy duty black suede finishes off the pairs.
The Vans Slip On and Mtn. Edition JP "Kevlar" is available now exclusively from Japanese retailer BILLY'S both instore and online. There are no plans for a US release.
